Parry Sound's road to the world is a single highway. The 400 heads south out of town, crosses Muskoka, passes Barrie and reaches the 401; a short run west on the 401 meets the 427, and the 427 delivers you into Pearson's terminal loop. There is no clever alternative worth the name in good weather, and none is needed — measured, the trip is 216.3 km and about 119 minutes when the road is clear.

Where it slows is predictable: the Barrie stretch, where the cottage traffic concentrates, and the 400/401 interchange at the tail of the working day. North of town the 400 becomes Highway 69 toward Sudbury, so a pickup at Pointe au Baril or anywhere up the shore simply joins the same corridor a little earlier.

Summer Sundays and winter squalls decide the pickup time
