The toll-free line runs Highway 409 to the 401 east, up Highway 404, and off at Steeles, Highway 7 or 16th Avenue depending on where in Markham you're headed. It's the default when the 401 is moving — midday and evenings.

In the weekday crushes, the Highway 407 ETR earns its keep: straight across the top of the city with nothing like the 401's volume, dropping onto the 404 or local roads minutes from most Markham addresses.
