Lock towns, lakes and the summer rush

Bobcaygeon has been a lock town since 1833 — the oldest station on the Trent-Severn — and Fenelon Falls works the same trade two lakes over. From May to Thanksgiving the waterway sets the region's clock: cottagers arrive Friday, boats queue at the locks, and the line outside Kawartha Dairy stretches down the block. A lot of our summer work is exactly this crowd — owners and guests flying into Pearson and needing to get to a lake that no train or bus has ever gone near.

Lindsay, Fleming's Frost Campus and the working year

Outside cottage season, Lindsay does the heavy lifting. Fleming College's Frost Campus brings environmental and natural-resources students from across the country and abroad, which means September arrivals, December departures and April move-outs — often with a year of gear that fills an SUV nicely. Ross Memorial Hospital, the courts and the businesses along Kent Street add steady year-round travel in both directions.

Highway 35 south: the drive itself

From Lindsay the run is Highway 35 south to the 407's eastern end, then the toll route west toward the airport — about 139 kilometres, 85 minutes free-flowing, and up to two hours when the GTA is thick. Bobcaygeon, Fenelon Falls and Coboconk sit twenty to forty minutes further up the lakes, and your quote and pickup time both reflect the real starting point.

Winter's particular trick here is drifting snow across the open farmland south of Lindsay — the road is fine, then briefly is not. Chauffeurs drive it accordingly, schedules carry cold-season buffers, and the flat fare holds whatever the wind is doing.
